Much admired iconic “Tin top” racer continuations announced.

It has recently been announced that Boreham Motorworks and DRVN Automotive Group will be producing faithful continuation models of the iconic Alan Mann Racing Mk1 Ford Escort which dominated and won both the 1968 and 1969 championships. That car was one of the most popular cars of the period. The new continuations are being built with the help of the original Alan Mann team and is officially licensed by Ford. To ensure accuracy every component of the original car was scanned before manufacture.

The cars will be easily identifiable by the retention of the superb red and gold colour scheme and the beautifully designed wide “bubble” arches. In the day the championship winning car, driven by Frank Gardner, was recognised wherever it went by its XOO 349F number plate.

The new cars will be eligible for historic racing, with the offer of assistance from the Alan Mann team, and it would be amazing to see these faithful continuations competing on track again. Let’s all hope that there are enough people out there with a sufficiently large wallet and fond memories to make this happen.
