The whole sporting community, not just those of us passionate about cars and racing, is mourning the passing of a true icon, legend and gentleman. Sir Stirling Moss was without doubt one of the greatest drivers ever. He was universally recognised as the racing driver against whom all other drivers were judged, not just in Formula One, but also sports and saloon car racing. He was an instantly recognisable character in a golden era of racing, admired and respected by the world in general. Those of us old enough will surely recall the oft quoted saying of traffic cops when dealing with speeding motorists – “Who do you think you are, Stirling Moss?!” Fond memories of this motor racing giant will be retold forever.
